1900 Miles – An Old Friend – Part 2

BLOG 8

Previously, I told a story of how my wife and I met an old friend
after driving 1900 miles from home.
While on our way, my wife entered a store in Colorado
just in time to have a surprising chance meeting with our friend.
Astonishing as this is, the facts that really impress me are …
The timing details of our journey leading up to this “Rare Event”.

Some Details of Our Journey Leading to the Meeting:

  • My wife (Edie) and I had not seen our friend, Suellen, for years.
  • Suellen had just moved to Colorado a couple of weeks before.
  • She came to the store – not for herself – but to bring her son.
  • I got lost for over 30 minutes as I drove toward the store.
  • We also stopped for a while to collect e-mail in a coffee shop
  • Initially, I didn’t see Suellen, since I entered the store too soon.
  • I saw her son, but he had grown so much – I didn’t recognize him.
  • Edie stayed in the car to answer a cell phone call before going in.
  • Edie came into the store at just the right time to meet Suellen.

A few minutes either way in our journey and we’d have missed each other completely.
There would have been NO MEETING at all. But, that day the timing was PERFECT.
As far as I’m concerned – it’s a miracle we met at all.

Have you ever had a surprisingly rare event when you met an old acquaintance?
Did your meeting occur hundreds or thousands of miles from home?
If so — drop me a note — I’d love to hear your story and share it here.

Today, I’ll finish with a question.
Is any chance meeting between two friends so rare — it will never happen?
At this point – I’m really not sure.
